Substitutions For Some Ingredients

Baking powder half teaspoon cream of tartar plus a quarter teaspoon of baking soda



1 cup self-raising flour 1 cup all-purpose flour plus 1 teaspoon baking powder, half teaspoon salt and

quarter teaspoon baking soda



1 cup buttermilk 1 cup whole milk with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar added to it. Stir and let it stand for five minutes before using.



1 square = 1 ounce (28g) 3 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa unsweetened chocolate powder plus 1 tablespoon shortening or cooking oil (plain tasting)



4 ounces sweet chocolate Quarter cup unsweetened cocoa powder plus one third cup sugar and 3 tablespoons shortening



sour cream plain yogurt
